Amazing food, super friendly staff and absolutely loved the environment. Highly recommend for date night!
Came here for restaurant week and the food DEMANDS a five star rating, but... Some might think the quirky building and seating arrangements adds to the experience. But I'm not one of them. It was extremely cold out, so their heater was running, and when it was on, it was blasting us too warm, and when it was off, it was cold. Distracting to say the least. Not comfortable. The food was TOTALLY AMAZING though and the service was great. I'm just not a fan of the physical set up. Especially for the price one pays...
If you want something different for your dining experience, this is the place. You're going to eat in a quansit (sp) hut. You might be sitting at a picnic table. Fun, right? But it's the food that will knock your socks off as well as knowledgeable and helpful servers and then, people in the kitchen who prepare fine cuisine! We were there for Chicago Restaurant Week, and that menu was fabulous! The prix fix included choices of starters, small plates ( a slight up charge for a premium plate added), and main course. No real gf choice but you won't suffer if that's what you need. Two desserts were offered, but, sad yo say, no room for it!! Bar service offered wine, beer/cider and cocktails. No frills surrounding you, but with that menu, you won't miss the lack of 'decor'. I'll be back!!!
Came here for a night cap since we always pass this place. It looks very unassuming from the outside but the inside was very cozy and full of people. We sat at the bar and learned they have a wide assortments of beers and wines that rotate very frequently. I ended up getting recommended a tasty Chardonnay and really enjoyed it, especially considering I typically don't like them. Excited to come back
Final days of Chicago and came here for a lovely dinner which did not disappoint, even with a two year old. The latkas are awesome and unique, cocktails are perfections, and then that snitzel or however it's spelled. Holy cow outstanding and a must have. The seasonal veggies are great too. Mushroom risotto was a bit too earthy and could have used more salt, cheese, or acid to break it up. Or maybe making it a side instead of an entree. Super kind servers and great ambiance for a fun date. A bit pricier than last time I was there but definitely a solid meal.
Ambiance: 5/5 - very small venue, super cozy vibes - it feels very hole in the wall for a restaurant that has a trendier name Service: 5/5 - our server was super friendly and helpful in getting us up to speed on the many options for the cheeseboard selection Food: Honestly 6/5 - this place executed beautifully on everything we ordered. We ordered food for the cheeseboard and they source everything so intentionally for the cheeses but make almost all the meat in house - so that salami? the pate? everything made in house. We accidentally ordered...duck everything. Duck pate, Duck mousse, duck leg and my god duck is sometimes hit or miss, can be gamey, but all of their duck was fantastic - creamy, flavorful, heavenly for real no cap. If my wallet could afford it I'd be back pretty regularly.
This is a pretty nice spot for a casual/semi casual date. The cocktail menu is pretty interesting and I do recommend trying the gin martini. The portions are decent sizes. My recommendation is a couple of orders of starters and smaller plates and an entree per person. The entree list is extensive and can cover anyone with any taste. I recommend going with something new instead of the burger. It's...just a burger. Last but not the least, the service was very welcoming and polite, friendly and knowledgeable service team. However, we did find it slightly slow (20min for a drink). Try sitting outside too, weather permitting of course. We were unlucky enough to have the loudest group ever with no care for anyone else dine there at the same time and I'm sad to say it impacted the experience. We will surly be back but next time we will likely try the bar or the patio.
We were here several years ago and had a bad experience so we figured we'd try again. It did not disappoint. The service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere was cozy, but a bit loud. The food was divine. We started with a cheese plate because....I mean cheese. We also ordered their famous latke bites. They're a must! I had the whole Cornish hen and loved every bite. Smelled a bit weird but that could have just been the skin or seasoning. The portion looks big but there's just enough meat on there for one person. We had a great time, enjoyed the food and the company and we'll certainly be back since it's a stone's throw from our place.
I've been really looking forward to trying out this place, the staff was friendly and the spot itself is cute and quaint. The first few dishes we had left us feel dissapointed (the chefs charcuterie cheese and meats was not great nor was the lamb sausage we got). However the braised lamb was really flavor and tender as well as the beef cheek croquette. Ultimately, its a cute spot, but I did wish the food had a little more to offer in overall flavor. I'm not sure it's a place I'll seek out again
